Scholarships and Awards

The Asia Pacific Network for Moral Education and the Journal of Moral Education Trust will jointly award a number of scholarships with a maximum value of $1000 US each, to cover the cost of attending the 2023 Joetsu Conference. These scholarships are intended to assist scholars who would otherwise be unable to attend. It is hoped that they will enable the participation of delegates, especially those at an early stage (i.e. within 5 years of achieving the PhD) in their academic careers, from the Asia-Pacific region. These awards will be administered, and the applicants selected, by a committee.

Scholarships may be used to support travel costs, payment of conference fees and/or meals and accommodation, depending on individual circumstances. Applicants will also be expected to obtain funding from other sources insofar as this is possible.

Applicants will be required to submit, by email and in English:

  1. Full name and contact details including mailing address, phone number and email address.
  2. A cover letter of no more than one page summarizing the applicant’s reasons for wishing to attend the conference, and the importance of the scholarship in making this possible. Applicants should indicate whether they have applied for or intend to apply for funding from other sources. (For example, from the academic institutions where they are employed or are studying, or from other sources in their countries, etc.)
  3. An estimated budget for their participation in the conference, including details of their travel costs, meals and accommodation. They should state the amount of money they will need from the scholarship fund and exactly what they intend to spend this on.
  4. A CV of no more than one page including degrees obtained, current academic affiliation, and publications (if any).
  5. A conference proposal, including title of paper or other presentation; nature of the presentation (individual paper or otherwise); abstract of up to 150 words; and 500-word summary. This should be an initial proposal in advance of the full proposal, the latter to be submitted later on to the conference programme committee.
  6. A letter of recommendation from an academic supervisor, colleague or employer.
  7. In addition, because the APNME committee does hope that the awardee can play as an active member for promoting the future development of this organization, it requires the awardee should be an APNME member. If you are still not an APNME member, please fill in the membership form and send it to the committee for reviewing travel grants applications and to the APNME secretary at secretary@apnme.org as soon as possible.

Applications should be sent by email to the Committee Chair by 1 March of 2023. The Committee will request further information if necessary, with a view to making its final decisions by the middle of April. The Committee’s decisions will be final.
