JME Trust Invited Writing Workshop to be held at APNME 19th conference, Ethics and Authentic Dialogue in the AI Era, The Pearl Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, 4th November 2025
The JME Editorial Board is looking to increase the supply of individual high-quality articles submitted for review to the journal, also noting that the translation of annual conference submissions into articles published in the JME is currently quite low.
We invite you to apply to be considered for a workshop to be held on 4th November 2025, the day before the next APNME conference, at the conference venue in Kuala Lumpur, at which we will offer time, space and an opportunity for mentoring support for up to ten authors.
Those eligible to apply will be individuals:
• whose abstracts have been accepted for the APNME Conference at the Pearl Hotel, Kuala Lumpur;
• who attend the APNME Conference in person; and
• who demonstrate the potential to develop their conference submission into an article suitable for publication in terms of academic quality and connection to the aims and scope of the JME https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/cjme20/about-thisjournal#aims-and-scope.
Please note: Conference attendees wishing to apply for a travel grant should do so in the usual way, as detailed elsewhere on the conference website.
How to apply
Please submit the following documentation by 1st August 2025:
- A covering letter (one page maximum) in which you provide some basic data:
- Your present institution and country of current employment/residence, role or job title, and the date on which your doctorate was awarded, if applicable.
- Your APNME submission (abstract and title).
- A short CV (two pages maximum) including details of publications.
- An outline of the proposed article (2,000 words maximum, including references) illustrating the potential of the abstract and title submitted to develop into a full article suitable for JME.
If you are in mainland China, please upload your documentation to:
If you are submitting from elsewhere, please upload your documentation to:
Only applications with all the above documentation will be considered. Applications will be assessed by two members of the JME Trust and two members of the APNME Committee, once the abstract and title have been accepted for the conference. If we receive more than ten suitable applications, we will prioritise applications from early career researchers looking to develop their academic publications list and who reside/work in countries with lower GDPs. (See https://www.worldometers.info/gdp/gdp-per-capita/.) Applicants will receive a decision about whether or not they have been accepted by 31st August.
The workshop will take place in Kuala Lumpur, and it is essential for authors to be present in person. The JME Trust will fund one night’s accommodation (on 3rd November) per participant and provide a light breakfast, working lunch and dinner on 4th November. The JME Trust and APNME will also organise a mentor who will read the outline of the proposed article in advance of the conference, give feedback to each participant and be available for discussion during the workshop on 4th November, and one follow-up email post-conference.
After the workshop, we expect authors to develop their work into full-size articles (5000-7000 words including references) for submission to the JME in the usual way. We hope for, but cannot guarantee, the acceptance of these submissions as this is a decision made by the JME Editor and editorial team. While articles can be co-authored, only one author per article can attend the workshop.
Dr Monica Taylor, on behalf of the JME Trust Trustees and APNME
