The Asia Pacific Network for Moral Education and the Journal of Moral Education Trust will jointly award several scholarships to cover the cost of attending the 2025 Malaysia Conference. These scholarships are intended to assist scholars who would otherwise be unable to participate. It is hoped that they will enable the participation of delegates, especially those at an early stage (i.e. within 5 years of achieving the PhD) in their academic careers, from the Asia-Pacific region.
These awards will be administered, and the applicants selected, by a committee whose members include:
Chair: Dr. Maosen LI (APNME Chair, Renmin University, China)
Dr. Monica TAYLOR (APNME Honorary President; JMET Trustee, UK)
Dr. Vishalache BALAKRISHNAN (Universiti Malaya, Malaysia)
Dr. Yan HUO (Tsinghua University, Beijing, China)
Scholarships may be used to support travel costs, payment of conference fees and/or meals and accommodation, depending on individual circumstances. Applicants will also be expected to obtain funding from other sources, to the extent possible.
Applicants will be required to submit, by email and in English. Please include all the details below in one folder or one document:
- Full name and contact details including mailing address, phone number and email address.
- A cover letter of no more than one page summarising the applicant’s reasons for wishing to attend the conference, and the importance of the scholarship in making this possible. Applicants should indicate whether they have applied for or intend to apply for funding from other sources. (For example, from the academic institutions where they are employed or are studying, or from other sources in their countries, etc.)
- An estimated budget for their participation in the conference, including details of their travel costs, meals and accommodation. They should state the amount of money they will need from the scholarship fund and exactly what they intend to spend it on.
- A CV of no more than one page, including degrees obtained, current academic affiliation, and publications (if any).
- A conference proposal, including the title of the paper or other presentation; nature of the presentation (individual paper or otherwise); abstract of up to 150 words; and a 500-word summary. This should be an initial proposal in advance of the full proposal, the latter to be submitted later on to the conference programme committee.
- A letter of recommendation from an academic supervisor, colleague or employer.
Applications should be sent by email to the Committee Chair by 15th August 2025 to apnme.travelgrant@gmail.com. The Committee will request further information if necessary, with a view to making its final decisions by the end of September 2025. The Committee’s decisions will be final.
